David Kelly Profile

Senior Designer and Estimator David Kelly has been with Scotts Timber Engineering since 2019 and in the industry for over 30 years.

Based at our Redditch operation, which serves the Midlands and beyond, David designs roof trusses and posi-joists, and moved into design from a shop floor truss manufacturing role. Over his 30 plus years in the industry, he’s designed roofs and floors for countless developments across England and Wales.

“There’s job satisfaction in successfully securing an order to supply,” David commented. “I enjoy seeing that same site through and on the back of that, working to secure repeat business from the customer.”

His view of the housebuilding sector at the moment is that it has been shrinking for many years, despite consecutive governments saying we need to build more houses.  “New developments are coming through though,” he believes. “There are currently a lots of proposals within Worcestershire and the surrounding areas involving buying-up “green belt” and potentially  enlarging or forming new villages, hopefully with supporting infrastructure of schools, shops and employment opportunities. While disappearing countryside has always left me with mixed feelings, this has always been the way that housing has happened.  In the meanwhile there are still lots of suppliers looking for a piece of the action.”

Outside work, and after many years of study (and pain 😉)  David achieved black belt in Tae Kwan Do (Korean Karate!).  He also enjoys long daily walks with Patrick, his English Springer Spaniel, achieving 10K + steps most days.  He reads a lot and enjoys classic TV and films as well as going out with friends, trying real ales, dancing like a lunatic (preferably to Ska) and singing (or in his words murdering) songs.
