PV Installations
While figures for 2025 are not yet available, 2024 saw the highest level of solar system installation for over seven years and this is only set to increase.
Not a great surprise, as homeowners look for ways to keep energy bills down and reduce the cost of charging cars overnight.
And as Future Homes Standard approach, and as developers start to respond to current and anticipated requirements to incorporate PV roof panels on new builds, we are already seeing many of the major players incorporating in-roof solar panels in designs currently being built around the UK.
Design Manager at Scotts Timber Engineering, Lawrence Raven, is increasingly seeing this trend reflected in work from across the sector: “Often the integrated panels are lighter than the tiles they replace, and are increasingly fitted ‘in-roof’, with adjustments only required to roof loads at design stage; PV panels will also need some mechanical and electrical services equipment inside the roof.” He concluded: “With Persimmon and Miller Homes (to name just a couple) already incorporating in-roof PV, it’s rapidly becoming the new normal to integrate solar panels into the roofline.”
